Two reality TV auction shows enter ….

and well, both actually leave. One of my guilty pleasures is watching stupid shows (see Lizard Lick Towing) and I have been intrigued by both Auction Hunters on Spike and Storage Wars on A&E. They both have their highs and their lows, but the “reality” part of the show actually goes to …

Auction Hunters.

I know. It’s surprising, but hear me out. I am not going on personalities or the locations or the stuff they actually get. What bothers me the most is how Storage Wars will just accept the fact that if one of the buyers says they can get “$500” for a couch, it’s worth $500. Or if they even get something appraised for $1,000, they will automatically get that from a buyer. In a way, it’s an offshoot of American Pickers on History. They both just accept the fact of the character saying they can sell an item for a good hundred or more dollars and add that to their total.

Auction Hunters, on the other hand, has a lot of the same with them saying that they can get so much or it’s worth X. But, and this is a Sir Mix-A-Lot sized but, they actually sell most of their items and the transactions are broadcast. So if they say they can get $2,000 for something and actually only sell it for $1,600, we see that. It makes it more realistic (I know, on “reality” tv too!), and it is not as frustrating.

A&E – here’s an idea. Do a post-mortem on the season with what they SAID they were going to make/sell it for – and what they actually sold the stuff for. Maybe someone got a better deal on one thing or got hosed on another.

Just my two cents … going … going … gone!
